Centralia School District had one of Orange County’s highest percentages of improvement in this year’s CAASPP results. Districtwide, 62% of students met or exceeded state English standards in 2016 compared with 52% the year before; in math, the percent of students who met the standard rose 7 points, to 53%. WAY TO GO!!

Raymond Temple experienced a 21% increase in English standards. Dr. Estela Salas-Sarmiento, Principal at the school shared that “Raymond Temple School’s 21% growth in proficiency in the area of Language arts achievements is a testament to our staff’s commitment to the District’s mission of excellence for all students, along with the motivation of our scholars and the support of the parent community.”

The Centralia Elementary School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 to place a $49 million bond measure, Measure N, on the November ballot to upgrade classrooms and labs in order to keep pace with technology and repair aging facilities to meet modern safety standards.

If passed by local voters, funding from Measure N would go towards improvements at the eight schools in the Centralia School District, which has been serving local students since 1875.

Board President Connor Traut stated, “Most Centralia schools were built more than 50 years ago and require extensive repairs and upgrades so they can continue to serve our community well for decades to come.  Students really need modern science labs and access to technology to succeed in this changing world. Measure N is essential for our students’ continued success.”

“Every penny from Measure N would benefit our neighborhood schools,” said Superintendent Norma Martinez. She added, “since the State is no longer funding school facilities improvements, we needed to seek out a local solution. If we want our students to have the same opportunities as others in the region to succeed in college and career, we need to improve student access to today’s technologies and provide them with a solid background in science, math and technology. I am confident that Measure N will allow us to address identified needs in our schools so we can continue to focus on educating our children for successful futures.”  For more, please see the attached press release.
